We’ll be closing down these plants across America and switching to wind and solar power, as well as offering tax credits to help families buy energy-efficient appliances, like your refrigerator or coffee maker, for solar panels on your home, to weatherize your home and other things that save an average, experienced family money.
The Republican National Committee’s Twitter account responded to Biden’s statement by writing, “Joe Biden celebrates coal plant workers losing their jobs.” Biden continued, “Generating power from wind and solar is more affordable than it is from coal and oil.”

According to the study, the fossil fuel industry accounted for the majority of the sector’s job losses, which totaled 29,271 positions in 2021, a 3.1% year-over-year reduction. 31,593 jobs were lost by onshore and offshore petroleum firms, a 6.4% drop; 7,125 jobs were lost by the coal industry, an 11.8% drop; and 12% were lost in the fossil fuel extraction sector.

The Independent Petroleum Association of America’s Jennifer Marsteller told Fox News Digital in an email that the DOE jobs report “is not only reflective of the broader pandemic slowdown but also highlights an Administration that has worked overtime to restrict American natural gas and oil production.” While running for president in 2020, Biden advocated for coal miners to “learn to program” in order to prepare for a future in which their jobs may be phased away.v
