MADISON, Wis. — On News 3 Now on Saturday night, a bizarre and distressing incident that took place in southern Wisconsin is broadcast to a large audience nationwide.
This weekend’s episode of 48 Hours on CBS will focus on Bart and Krista Halderson’s disappearance and their son Chandler’s conviction for their deaths.
In order to tell that narrative, you will need to hear from your family, the investigators, and a familiar figure on News 3 Now.

One of the journalists who spoke with Chandler before his arrest and was included in the 48 Hours show was Adam Duxter, who spent that summer working for News 3 Now before moving on to WCCO in Minneapolis.
Duxter recalled that he remembered having a lot of questions after Bart and Krista Halderson vanished in July 2021 during a Zoom call with News 3 Now reporter Kathryn Merck.
Duxter remarked, “We understood it wasn’t your ordinary story. Evidently, Madison and the surrounding area of south central Wisconsin paid a lot of attention to it.
In order to assist with the creation of the show, News 3 Now gave CBS News access to several hours of prior coverage and video from the trial. Erin Moriarty of 48 Hours and CBS News producers travelled to Madison earlier this year to conduct the interviews for the story. Duxter was extensively questioned for the finalised show.
For us in our community, it was something that stung really badly, I think I really wanted to underscore and emphasise going into it, said Duxter.
He is not the only one who feels that way. Elise Schaffer, the public relations officer for the sheriff’s office, claims that the organisation did not decide to take part in the episode lightly and only agreed to do it after the 48 Hours team promised not to include graphic details about the murders.
Schaffer stated, “One of our concerns going into this was that they might sensationalise the issue, but they were really diligent in making sure that they stuck to the facts.
The 48 Hours team concurred and put in months of effort reading through interviews, police reports, and hours of News 3 Now video.
Even though he will be appearing on the programme, Duxter noted that a large crew at News 3 Now covered the case from the disappearance through the sentencing. Duxter advised viewers to keep in mind the efforts of all parties, including the investigators, as they watch the show.

Duxter remarked, “This is about our team, not about myself. But in the end, it all comes down to the Halderson family. People are still in mourning.

The programme will run on Saturday, November 5, at 9 p.m., and 48 Hours gave it the title “The Snapchat Clue.” Both CBS and Paramount+ will stream the programme at Central Time. After airing, the programme will also be accessible here online.
