According to the prosecutor’s office, the officer who shot Chacon is a member of the Holmdel Police Department.

According to the law enforcement source quoted by the Asbury Park Press, the officer shot the victim in the hip. The individual was brought to the Neptune-based Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to provide specifics about the incident, claimed that one officer was hurt while trying to subdue the man.

According to the source, the incident started previously at Bayshore Medical Center in the township when a man got into a white delivery vehicle that was still moving.

The man had recently been released from the hospital, according to a previous report from News12 New Jersey, which cited anonymous sources.

A few miles south of the hospital, on Route 35 in Middletown, the man lost control of the white van and smashed it. A witness uploaded a photo of the car straddling the concrete Jersey barrier separating the lanes on Route 35 to the press.

According to News12, a kind stranger attempted to assist the man, but he then stole their car, drove five miles north on Route 35, smashed their second car, a white SUV, and set it on fire.

On the northbound side of Route 35, between Union and South Laurel Avenues, police swarmed to the man. The shooting took place there.

As of Wednesday night, the prosecutor’s office has not confirmed those specifics. Heavy traffic delays were brought on by the police’s presence at the scene of the second collision.

Around 7:30 a.m., the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that Route 35 was shut down in both directions between Union Avenue/Centerville Road and Laurel Avenue. Middle Road access to Route 36 northbound to the Garden State Parkway was also shut off.

The state Department of Transportation issued a press release stating that detours have been posted and that the closures would stay all day.
