LOCATION: GREENVILLE, MS On Tuesday night, a police officer was shot and killed in the Mississippi Delta, and several others were injured.

Myiesha Stewart, a detective with the Greenville Police Department, was shot and killed while responding to a call, as reported by Mississippi’s commissioner of public safety, Sean Tindell. Like all shootings involving police officers in Mississippi, Stewart’s death is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. On Tuesday, the Delta Democrat-Times reported that multiple locations in Greenville had been the scene of gunfire and police activity.

Both Mayor Errick D. Simmons and Police Chief Marcus Turner Sr. met with Stewart’s loved ones, as stated in a statement released by the city. During “this very difficult time,” Simmons has asked for the public’s prayers and support.
