When “Stranger Things” launched on Netflix in 2016, it immediately gained notoriety, and now, six years later, the Duffer brothers are preparing for the fifth and final season.
Over the years, the terrifying dimension of the Upside Down has posed a multitude of challenges to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the Hawkins gang. The series’ long-time manipulator Vecna (Jamie Campbell-Bower) is introduced in season four, and by the end of the penultimate season, he has broken down the walls separating Hawkins from the Upside Down, indicating that a larger conflict is imminent.

The Duffer Brothers, the program’s creators, recently gave a teaser during a speech at an event in Los Angeles last week on what to expect from the final episodes of the popular show (via The Hollywood Reporter). The pair outlined how it will combine the magnitude and breadth of season four with the tone of season one.
Added Ross Duffer: “In terms of scale, I believe what we’re trying to do is somewhat return to the beginning in the vein of [season] 1, but on a smaller scale. It should have a bit of everything, hopefully.” As a way of paying homage to the entire series, the showrunner also revealed that “Stranger Things” season five will incorporate a little piece of each of the previous seasons along the way.
“It’s sort of got a little bit from each season,” he said, “whereas before each season was so obviously — three, this is our big summer blockbuster season with our huge monster; four was the psychological horror.”
They still have “quite a bit more to get in,” according to Ross Duffer, who added that there are a lot of character arcs that will be resolved before the conclusion.
It’s a delicate balance, he explained, between giving these people time to finish their character journeys while also tying up loose ends and carrying out our final reveals because many of them have developed since season one. In the meantime, Matt Duffer made light of the fact that they succeeded in moving Netflix execs to tears during the pitch session for the last season.

He stated: “We did succeed in making our executives cry, which I considered to be a positive indication. They only ever cried before in budget meetings, I think.”
