A worker died when a part of a building that was being built for a Spokane Tribe casino fell down. The Spokane Tradeswoman said on Wednesday that the dead person was a local journeyman carpenter named Ana Vetter.

The Spokane Tradeswoman wrote on its Facebook page

“Spokane Tradeswomen is mourning the loss of our dear sister, Ana Vetter. LU 59 Journeyman Carpenter Ana was fatally injured on a job site in Airway Heights yesterday.”

“She loved her work and was proud to be a woman in construction.”

Local news outlets said that the fatal accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the site where a hotel is being built next to the Spokane Tribe Casino. The Spokane Tribal Police Department and other local, state, and Tribal agencies are looking into the case.

Spokane Tribe Casino General Manager Javier De La Rosa said at a press conference on Tuesday –

“The family and work crew on site are at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers.”

“We will continue to release information to the public as we learn more from the different agencies involved.”

Swinerton Construction is building the expansion, and they said that a piece of formwork fell off the building site. The mould that is used to shape concrete into building shapes is called “formwork.”

While we’re on the subject of mishaps, we’ve reported on a number of others that have occurred recently that you can learn about in our articles:

The company said on its website that no other workers were hurt or involved in the accident. The Spokane Tribe of Indians runs the casino, which is about 10 miles west of Spokane, Wash.

The hotel won’t open until later in 2023, and the casino’s gaming floor just got twice as big. In the next few years, the tribe wants to build a convention centre, an entertainment centre, a cultural centre, and more restaurants and shops.

The Tribe and the construction company both said they are working with the other agencies that are looking into the accident to find out what happened.
