Jim Brown, a storied running back with the Cleveland Browns, ded at 87. The running back led the Browns to an NFL title in 1964 before retiring at the pinnacle of his career after the 1965 campaign and starting a new career as an actor. Brown advanced their cause by using his position and clout.

He organized a rally in Cleveland in 1967 to support boxer Muhammad Ali’s opposition to the Vietnam Waɼ, including some of the country’s best Black sportsmen, like Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Later, he focused on reducing gang-related violence in Los Angeles.

Monique Brown, Brown’s wife, posted following her husband’s pssing. She posted the following on her Instagram page:

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the pssing of my husband, Jim Brown. He pssed peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star. To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken…”

Brown participated in nine NFL seasons, all with the Cleveland Browns. He accumulated 12,312 yards on 12,359 carries, 2,499 yards on 262 receptions, and 126 touchdowns over the course of those nine seasons.
