Fans of “Suicide Squad” And “Legends Of Tomorrow” Who Want To See “Release The Ayer Cut,” Says James Gunn, “We Are Listening.”

James Gunn is already dealing with high expectations from DC’s most ardent supporters, particularly those who have started hashtag campaigns on Twitter to #ReleaseTheAyerCut, as the new co-CEO of DC Studios. He has offered an olive branch in response and assures them that “we are listening.”

DC fans have pushed Warner Bros. to release David Ayer’s original director’s cut of the critically panned “Suicide Squad” since last year, and more recently, fans of the CW television series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” have pushed for an eighth season after the program was canceled this past April.

While Gunn could not guarantee that the wishes expressed in these campaigns would be fulfilled, he did mention seeing them in a Twitter conversation about his first ambitions for DC Studios.

After a busy, productive weekend, I opened up Twitter to see the numerous tweets supporting #SaveLegendsofTomorrow and #ReleaseTheAyerCut as well as fan support for other DC initiatives over the years. Most of these inquiries were kind and enthusiastic,” tweeted Gunn.

“Peter [Safran] and I believe it’s crucial we thank you, the fans, and let you know we hear your many demands for the roads forward for DC,” says Peter Safran, the new (and first-ever) CEO of DC Studios.

Although the pressure of our new responsibilities has made it harder for us to connect on Twitter, he continued, “We are listening & open to everything as we embark on this adventure, and we will continue to do so for the next few years.

While Gunn is still working on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in post-production at Marvel Studios, He and Safran will be very busy supervising the creation of DC movies that are already in various phases of development, such as sequels to “Aquaman,” “Shazam! , “The Batman,” and “Joker. Gunn is also slated to pen and oversee the production of “Peacemaker” season two for HBO Max.

Gunn and Safran will oversee the creation of all DC projects for film, television, and streaming as the heads of DC Studios, but the theatrical releases and The CW’s Arrowverse will get the most criticism from fans. Projects approved by the new heads won’t probably start to take off until 2025 at the earliest.

While he did not completely rule out giving “Suicide Squad” and “Legends of Tomorrow” a second shot, Gunn hinted that when those films are published, they will be a part of a new cinematic world for DC’s superheroes. Instead of focusing on the past, Gunn is interested in the present.

As for the Biggest Tale Ever Told, Gunn added, “All our first attention is on the story going forward, working out the new DCU, and telling it across various films, television shows, and animated projects.” “We welcome everyone into our new realm, including all DC fandoms from around the multiverse. We are eager to share more.
