One of the bloodiest mass shootings in Chicago in recent memory, a drive-by shooting in East Garfield Park on Monday night resulted in 14 people being shot, three of them were children.
Police Supt. David Brown told reporters that the kids are 3, 11, and 13. They were all in critical condition. According to investigators, the other victims’ ages ranged from 31 to 56.
According to authorities, the incident happened at 9 p.m. as some people gathered for a vigil in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street and others were out celebrating Halloween. Although it was unclear for whom the vigil was being held, balloons were being let off as costumed individuals marched down the block.

Brown proclaimed outside Stroger Hospital, where many of the injured were transferred, “It’s over by three seconds.” “The automobile is leaving after passing and firing erratically into the throng.
We always fear reprisal, but in this case, Brown said, “we don’t know enough to say if it involves a gang fight or some personal conflict yet. As soon as we know, we’ll share that with the public.” And obviously, we’re sending more police officers to the area to make sure we can stop any reprisal if it turns out to be true.

Lightfoot added, “I’m appealing on people of good will who have information to come forward. The shooters showed no consideration for the lives of the adults and children impacted.”
