He was elected to a fourth term in office and previously served as the leader of the House Freedom Caucus, which is viewed as the far-right wing of the GOP. One of the most conservative members of the U.S. House, Biggs served as president of the Arizona state Senate and has long favored contentious and daring actions.
He was among the first Republicans to support a bill in 2021 to impeach President Joe Biden after eight months in office. He was also an early critic of Anthony Fauci and the efforts to shut down the economy during the early days of the epidemic. Biggs made comments to reporters in Washington last week that hinted at his displeasure with McCarthy.

According to CNN, Biggs stated, “We need to have a meaningful discussion about whether he should be the speaker. “I believe we need to have an honest internal discussion about where we’re going to be moving ahead.” In Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District, Biggs won reelection with ease.

He had received 56% of the vote as of Sunday in a Republican-friendly district. Biggs urged Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, R-Mesa, to join a campaign to have the Republican-controlled Legislature cast the state’s presidential electors following Biden’s narrow victory over Trump there.
Bowers opted out. Biggs implored his House colleagues in Washington to ignore the outcomes in Arizona and Pennsylvania, but his efforts were unsuccessful after a pro-Trump crowd invaded the Capitol.
