Raise your hands if Jimmy McGill has been absent from your life since August 2022. We are all, but the good news is that Bob Odenkirk is coming back to AMC in and as Lucky Hank. The drama will be the actor’s third production with the network after Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad.
The series premiere date as part of AMC’s Spring 2023 programming schedule was revealed by AMC at the Television Critics Association’s 2023 Winter Press Tour and the publication of the series’ teaser video. But I’ll get to that later.
The series, previously known as Straight Man and developed by Aaron Zelman and Paul Lieberstein, is based on Richard Russo’s 1997 novel. Even though the two shows are unrelated, you could consider Lucky Hank to be Better Call Saul’s spiritual successor because it was inspired by the success of Odenkirk’s earlier work on the network.
He had previously portrayed Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad’s fan-favorite shady lawyer Saul Goodman. These shows saw incredible popularity during their runs, making them television classics.
Better Call Saul was hailed as a shining example of a well-made prequel/spinoff that surpassed viewers’ expectations and earned Odenkirk multiple Emmy nominations. Lucky Hank might complete a hat trick for the AMC and Odekirk partnership if this success tale is any indication.
