The Mafia world and its working have made many of us make various conjectures. Some find it interesting; some find it gruesome, but there sure is excitement amongst the public. The fantasy world of the cinema has blessed us all and made us see the inside story without joining it.

One such great attempt is in the form of Godfather of Harlem. The series first premiered on November 8, 2020. The series is mainly based on the documentary series, ‘By Whatever Means Necessary: The Times of Godfather of Harlem’

The series is based on true events, on the life of the infamous crime lord Bumpy Johnson. When Bumpy returns from a ten-year jail term, he discovers that the area which he used to rule and dominate, was in ruins.

He confronts the present mafia of the city, which is the Genovese family of criminals. He has to go against the Italian mafia and has involved himself in a head-on war. He goes to any extent to reclaim the control of the streets from the mafia. He befriends the Muslim pastor Malcolm and forms a criminal alliance with him.

He strategically puts the rise of the pastor in between the social interests of the community. This social unrest hangs a sword on the head of the peace in the city. Mass destruction awaits the city as the people go into unprecedented chaos.

In the series, the events are more or less the same. Bumpy Johnson, a crime lord, a mafia, which is played by actor John Goodman, returns to Harlem. He has returned to his territory after ten years of jail term and finds that the game has changed. The neighborhood works differently now and the first thing that strikes his head is to gain his control back.

The second season ends at the point where Bumpy takes on the French connection and has a special message for Harlem. The new message is that Humpy is the new boss and that all things, legal or illegal will go through him.

The men of Bonanno are also aware of this and Bumpy gives this bang on message, that goods will now pass through him. Bonanno gets this message loud and clear and moves to East Harlem, only to work under Bumpy.

The third season will pick from this point only. It will portray how the new empire will run under him. It will show how Bumpy handles his former position of being at the top of the criminal chain. Not much of the details of the plot is leaked yet, but we will make an intelligent guess.

Apart from the main plot, the show has various fillers like the marriage of the love story and the proposal of Captain Omar and Elise. Stella and Ernie also have a tale to tell of their own. So, a lot is left unanswered, which will be dealt with in the third season.
