Jacob talks about politics, but Jack tells him that he did the same thing when he set up the Livestock Commission. The older Dutton says that he did that to help keep his family and land safe. There are no good or bad things. All you could do is protect your family and your way of life.
Now that Hank is taking care of Teonna, he sends his son to her house to tell her grandmother, Issaxche, about her situation, including the bad news that Teonna killed two nuns. When Issaxche’s son gets there, he finds that his mother has died. He found footprints, but he doesn’t think it was thieves because there was nothing to steal. When Hank’s son tells him the news, he sends him back to his father in the Badlands and tells him to go a different way.
Three priests who were looking for Teonna ran into him while he was camping for the night. One of them has a real problem with him, beats him for not answering their questions, and thinks he is still young enough to go back to their Indian school. After the priest argues about whether or not there is a God, he becomes determined to kill Hank’s son. He starts to pray, but Issaxche’s son comes up behind him and kills him. He also eats his soul before they go to the Badlands.

Is Hank dead?
The fact that Hank was shot in the back by a priest who was seeking for Teonna leaves us with the question of whether or not Hank is dead. Teonna was one of the people who ran into two additional priests the following day when they arrived to Hank’s. They are quick to discover their error after their initial assumption that she is a male. Teonna is taken down by one of them, and in an effort to demonstrate that she is a female, they try to rip her clothing.
