Around 10:45 on Monday morning, according to the sheriff’s office, Helger was utilizing the Short Cut chairlift at Park City Mountain when a tree fell on a lift cable, causing the chairs to “move up and down significantly.” Helger, who the resort claimed was on duty, plunged into a deep snow ravine from a height of at least 25 feet.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office stated that it took at least 20 minutes to reach Helger and dig him out of “chest-deep snow” due to the challenging terrain, according to KSL-TV. When he was dragged from the snow, he was unconscious, and efforts to save his life were made right away but to no effect.
The Park City Mountain Ski Patrol crew, which worked to save one of their own, and the whole Park City Mountain team are all being offered the greatest condolences by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said in a post on social media.
One of the several resorts owned by Vail Resorts, Park City Mountain, provided the following statement to Fox News Digital: Deirdra Walsh, vice president & chief operating officer of Park City Mountain, said.
“The Park City Mountain team — as well as the whole Vail Resorts team — express our heartfelt sympathies and support to the family and friends of our team member.” “We will be supporting our staff as we lament this awful loss,” the company said after the unfortunate tragedy.
