April Jones, 5, was kidnapped and killed by the sick killer Mark Bridger, and her family has never even been able to bury her tiny remains. On October 1, 2012, little April was playing joyfully close to her house in Machynlleth, Wales, when she abruptly broke off from her game with her friend.
Nobody knows why April strolled to a Land Rover and jumped inside, but she did. Bridger, who was 46 at the time, was operating the vehicle. It was the last time anyone would ever see the young girl alive as he sped through the small town on country roads without anyone knowing something dreadful was happening.
April’s mother, Coral Jones, started a frantic search when she realized her daughter, who had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, was missing.
Following a considerable media appeal and a massive manhunt by the police, April’s distraught parents begged for their daughter to come home.
Clearly having this happen to you, and the fact that she has cerebral palsy, something I learn a little about from my children, only makes things worse, said the then-prime minister, David Cameron, in a plea for assistance. (as reported by The Guardian)
“My appeal would be to everyone, if you know anything, if you saw anything, heard anything, have any ideas you can bring forward, talk to the police, help this family find their lovely child.”
Police and community volunteers searched for April for months, but there appeared to be no sign of the endearing young girl. She appeared to have disappeared out of thin air. The search for April was finally suspended on April 23, 2013.
The scale of the investigation was unprecedented in the history of the UK police. Notwithstanding the lack of a body or any information on what had happened to April, Bridger was apprehended the day after she vanished because he matched the description of the driver and the car where April had leaped.
April’s disappearance was considered a murder investigation barely four days later, and on October 6, he was charged with her death, child abduction, and attempting to obstruct justice.
In an odd turn of events, Bridger admitted he was “probably responsible” for her death on January 13 of the following year while still entering a plea of not guilty to murder.
He claimed to have unintentionally run over the young girl, but due to a combination of stress and drink, he had no idea what he had done with her body. The jury did not accept Bridger’s explanations. Therefore, they found him guilty of kidnapping, murder, and perverting the course of justice.
He received a life sentence and will live out the rest of his days in prison. Bridger has never disclosed what he did with tiny April’s body despite being aware that he would never again be a free man.
A detective, however, has a horrifying hunch about what the killer did with the young child after he killed her. The top investigating officer in the case, Detective Superintendent Andy John, thinks Bridger took April to either his cottage or an isolated spot, where he killed her.

Det Supt John believes the murderer used the skills he learned while working in an abattoir to dismember the child’s body before dispersing the pieces around the countryside. According to him, the remains might have been little and degraded. He told the Guardian:
“We’ve got fast-flowing rivers close by. At the time this offence occurred the river was very high and we can’t rule out that parts may have gone into the river; we can’t rule out that parts could have been burned on the fire.”
The only components of April’s body discovered by experts were pieces of human bone that belonged to a “younger individual” that were discovered in Bridger’s cottage’s fireplace.
