The capital city of Puerto Rico is SAN JUAN. On Saturday, the United States and Canada sent armored vehicles and other supplies to Haiti to assist police in their fight against a powerful gang. This comes as the Haitian government is considering asking for the immediate deployment of foreign troops.
The supplies were flown to Port-au-Prince on military aircraft, and a statement released by the U.S. State Department said that the equipment had been purchased by the Haitian government.

U.S. Southern Command spokesman wouldn’t elaborate on what supplies were shipped but did note that the U.S. and Canadian air forces worked together on the mission.
The State Department has stated that “this equipment will assist (Haiti’s National Police) in their fight against criminal actors who are fomenting violence and disrupting the flow of critically-needed humanitarian assistance,” thus impeding efforts to halt the spread of cholera.

Over a month after one of Haiti’s most powerful gangs surrounded a fuel terminal and called for Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation, the necessary equipment finally arrived. After Henry announced in early September that his administration could no longer afford to subsidise fuel, demonstrators in major cities blocked roads in protest of the sharp increase in fuel prices.
Since then, as fuel, water, and other supplies have dwindled across Haiti, gas stations have closed, hospitals have reduced services, and banks and grocery stores open on a limited basis.

On Saturday, the fuel terminal’s owners announced that armed men had overpowered surveillance and emergency staff, broken into the facility, and stolen more than 28,000 gallons of petroleum products.
The terminal stores over 10 million gallons of gasoline and diesel, as well as over 800,000 gallons of kerosene, and it was broken into for the second time this week by armed men.
