The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement stating that the preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Honda Civic driven by a 22-year-old Fowlerville man was traveling westbound on I-96 when he veered off the road, crossed the median, and collided head-on with a 2013 Ford Escape driven by a 71-year-old Roscommon man.
The Honda Civic’s driver was found dead on the scene, according to reports. The Ford Escape’s driver was freed from the car and sent to the hospital by Livingston County Ambulance, but he passed while en route.
Speed does not appear to have been an issue, and both drivers were wearing seat belts. For around 4 hours while the investigation was going on, the road was closed. Drug and alcohol abuse are still being looked into.
