Originally premiering on E! on March 15, 2015, The Royals is an American soap opera. It’s the channel’s first original series. Featuring Elizabeth Hurley, it was directed by Mark Schwahn. The series was initially a loosened version of Michelle Ray’s 2011 novel Falling for Hamlet. On January 5, 2016, two months before the second season of The Royals premiered, E! picked up the third season. E! renewed the show for a fourth season on February 16, 2017. As a viewer who stuck with the show until its final season, I have many fond memories of the show’s final year. In the season four finale, Robert was crowned king of England, Jasper and Eleanor announced their engagement, Violet and Cyrus had an unexpected sexual experience, and Kathryn and Liam announced they were expecting a child.
Initially, Helena ruled over a fictitious contemporary British royal family. Since she was a public figure, she had to deal with the usual, often comical, family tensions on top of everything else. In the sixth season of Royals, the twins became a part of her household. Queen Helena establishes an agreement with Simon’s brother Cyrus to ensure the safety of her daughter and her family.
