On Sunday, the fifth season premiere of “Yellowstone” broke a previous mark. According to Nielsen’s quick national ratings, the Western program’s premiere on the Paramount Network attracted 12.1 million live-plus-same-day viewers, which is the greatest launch audience the genre has ever seen.
The program is now 2022’s best-rated scripted series. According to Ashwin Navin, co-founder and CEO of Samba TV, “the show’s large viewership base continues to impress after four seasons with its most recent season launch becoming the most watched scripted television premiere of 2022.”

“‘Yellowstone’ continues to appeal to a sizable audience in the American Midwest who are passionate about Western-themed genres that have recently been notably underrepresented on television. For the season premiere, viewership notably over-indexed in places like St. Louis, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh while under-indexing in the predominantly coastal urban hubs of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.”
In “Yellowstone,” Kevin Costner’s portrayal of John Dutton examines how he manages the unanticipated difficulties his family’s ranching business faces as a result of his position as Montana’s governor. The popular show has been airing since 2018, and it has surprised fans like Drake.
Taylor Sheridan, the show’s creator, recently discussed the show’s success in an interview with The Atlantic. Before the program became popular, Sheridan had to struggle to maintain it in the direction he desired.
The director informed Viacom that there wouldn’t be a writers’ room, no show notes, and no one would see an outline if they decided to air the series. Sheridan simply wanted money from Viacom, nothing else.
The “Taylorverse,” a joint venture between Paramount Network and Sheridan, would have nine shows, the source said. The majority of them are written entirely by the director.

The Paramount+ streaming service ordered the Dutton family ancestry-focused series “1932” after the Costner-led “Yellowstone” became a huge hit. Additionally, the first prequel, “1883,” will return for a second season, the service revealed in February. Among its talents are Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Sam Elliott.
Sheridan told the newspaper, “I’m filming television projects worth over $1 billion. “They have given me that amount of money, and I need to go make more money with the product I develop. Yes, there is a great deal of responsibility involved. I do spread myself thin because I’m aware of the opportunity.”
Sheridan appreciated the amount of creative flexibility he has but said he’s not sure how long he can maintain the workflow.
