According to the Iowa State Patrol, on Thursday night (7 September) in Mills County, a Clarinda school bus struck the back of a tow truck. Around 8:45 p.m., the collision occurred on Highway 275 close to the 29-mile marker.
Clarinda resident Richard Owens, 65, was operating the school bus southbound on Highway 275 when it struck the left rear corner of the flatbed of the tow truck with its front right tire, crossed the middle line, and veered into the ditch.
No one was hurt, according to the troopers, while the school bus carrying 14 children was returning from a sporting event. At the time, the tow vehicle was engaged in a towing operation and had its amber warning lights on. The patrol received assistance from the Mills County Sheriff’s Office there.

School Bus vs. Tow Truck Accident in Mills County
On Wednesday morning in Pennsylvania, a school bus collided head-on with a tow truck, injuring dozens of students. In a news conference, state police Captain Patrick Dougherty reported that just after 8 a.m. on Route 115 in Bear Creek Township, Luzerne County, a bus transporting 49 kids to their second day of the semester at Bear Creek Community Charter School collided with an approaching truck.
According to Mr. Dougherty, the tow truck driver, 28-year-old Edward Edward Steinmann, is thought to have experienced a medical incident and veered over the median strip. Both Mr. Steinmann and the 53-year-old bus driver Suzanne Ent were transported to the hospital with light wounds.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the 49 pupils, who ranged in age from kindergarten to eighth grade, suffered just minor injuries in the collision and were transferred to a hospital on a different school bus for evaluation.

The two injured drivers were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Video taken at the scene of the collision indicated that the bus was severely damaged in the front-on collision. Mr. Dougherty applauded the actions of onlookers who helped the hurt youngsters and provided comfort to them until medical services could come. Dougherty stated:
“Although this was an unfortunate event, we are grateful that there were no serious injuries, We would like to thank the good citizens who stopped to help and render aid.”

During the news conference, Jim Smith, the CEO of Bear Creek Charter School, commended the witnesses and the multi-agency effort to provide care for the schoolchildren. A crash investigation is now being conducted.
