The animated series chronicles the rambunctious exploits of brilliant scientist Rick Sanchez, his awkward grandson Morty Smith, and the rest of their family as they embark on quests and solve a variety of science-fiction issues.
The ten-episode sixth season of Rick and Morty ended in December 2022 with a setup for the titular characters to track down the evil Rick Prime in Season 7.
Here is all the information we currently know about Season 7 of the science fiction comedy Rick and Morty, including its release date, cast, and other details…
When Will Rick and Morty Season 7 Release?
The Rick and Morty team recently attended the Annecy Festival, where they and Adμlt Swim shared the first information about the release date for Season 7 of Rick and Morty.
Season 7 of Rick and Morty will debut in September 2023, according to the French publication Premiere (translated by Comicbook.com). This fits in with the new Rick and Morty yearly release schedule.
Showrunner Dan Harmon revealed in August 2022 in an interview with The Wrap that Rick and Morty is on track to “be doing a season a year now” thanks to its new production strategy, which involves “being so ahead of schedule:”
“This is the strangest thing I’ve ever said about the show and it still feels unreal to say it, but we’ll be doing a season a year now. I still don’t understand how that’s possible. But that’s why it never happened on my watch. [Showrunner] Scott [Marder] is able to keep us on a schedule that mostly involves being so ahead of schedule that we can actually release things in a timely manner.”
Fans might anticipate Season 7 to premiere later in 2023 as the sixth season concluded in 2022. This is assuming that production has not been delayed by events like the sacking of star and co-creator Justin Roiland.
Will Justin Roiland Return for Rick and Morty Season 7?
Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick & Morty and the man who plays both of the show’s namesakes, was fired from the program by Adμlt Swim in January 2023 because he was being investigated for domestic abuse in Orange County, California.
At the time, sources for The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Rick and Morty will continue without its contentious co-creator. Dan Harmon will take over as the sole showrunner while Roiland’s key voice roles will be remade even though he will retain his co-creator title.
Charges against Roiland were dropped in March 2023, but as of right now, there is no indication that Adμlt Swim will be changing its mind.

It’s uncertain if Roiland’s lines for Season 7 have already been recorded because Harmon has claimed that Rick and Morty are being prepared way ahead of schedule to ensure timely releases. In any case, a new actor will probably be hired to record the lines for Season 7, maybe taking over Roiland’s previous work.
It’s possible that Adμlt Swim will recast Roiland in Rick & Morty in a manner similar to how Hulu recast Roiland in his other show, Solar Opposites. Dan Stevens, a British actor, will take over Roiland’s role as Korvo’s voice. In the episode, this is explained by Roiland’s character being struck by a “Voice-Fixing Ray.”
Solar Opposites Tweeted on Jun 21, 2023:
Sound on. Voice-Fixing Ray engaged. The #SolarOpposites are back August 14 on @hulu. pic.twitter.com/aqNh6tzEZc

Who Is Cast in Rick and Morty Season 7?
The remainder of the Smith family appears to be returning as part of the Season 7 ensemble, even though Justin Roiland is anticipated to be recast as Rick Sanchez, Morty Smith, and his several other recurring roles.
These include Jerry Smith played by Chris Parnell, Summer Smith played by Spencer Grammar, and Beth Smith played by Sarah Chalke, all of whom have appeared in every season.
Other recurrent figures and cast members from previous seasons, while not confirmed for Season 7, are likely to make an appearance. Some of the characters who might appear in Season 7 include President Curtis played by Keith David, Birdperson played by Dan Harmon, and Jessica played by Kari Wahlgreen.
Although Rick’s best friend Birdperson and Morty’s romantic interest Jessica skipped Season 6, there is still a potential that they could return in Season 7.
Will Rick and Morty Season 8 Release At Some Point?
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, the show’s creators, agreed to a deal with Adμlt Swim in May 2018 to produce 70 episodes of the science fiction comedy, which usually has ten-episode seasons.
Rick and Morty’s contract extended it to a tenth season, thus even after Season 7, the series will continue for at least three more seasons. Even though Dan Harmon will now serve as the sole showrunner going forward.
The Hollywood Reporter stated at the time of Roiland’s firing in January 2023 that the show is still on target to finish its ten-season order. Roiland discussed the show’s future in an interview with The Wrap before the start of Season 6 and provided the following reasons why it “could run forever,” equating its longevity to that of The Simpsons, which is presently in its 35th season:
“I think the show could run forever. The show could run as long as we want it to. We’re also not trying to do what ‘The Simpsons’ is doing and we’re doing less episodes than ‘The Simpsons.’ I think we could easily run this thing into Season 20 if we wanted, if the network wanted and if the fans wanted.”
