Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, have ended their multimillion-dollar arrangement with Spotify less than a year after her podcast, “Archetypes,” launched.

The couple’s production firm, Archewell Audio, and Spotify said together in a statement on Friday that they had “mutually agreed to part ways” and were “proud of the series” they had created together.

The New York Times reported that it is unknown what caused the decision or whether the podcast would continue on another platform.

The change occurred after the couple only created one series, “Archetypes,” a podcast presented by Meghan that debuted in August 2022 and attempted to “investigate, dissect and subvert the labels that try to hold women back” under their Archewell Audio podcast imprint.

Given the first season’s popularity, the representative stated that executives from both organizations had previously discussed “Archetypes” getting a second season. The creators have been informed that a second season would not proceed.

Serena Williams, Jameela Jamil, Mindy Kaling,  Mariah Carey, Constance Wu, and Paris Hilton were famous people who appeared in the inaugural season. “Archetypes” took home the top podcast honor at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles in December.

Meghan said in a statement on the Archewell website-

“I loved digging my hands into the process, sitting up late at night in bed, working on the writing and creative. And I loved digging deep into meaningful conversation with my diverse and inspiring guests, laughing and learning with them, and with each of you listening.”

The value of the royal’s arrangement with Spotify, disclosed in 2020, was reported at $20 million; however, it could not confirm this information immediately.

A Spotify representative did not confirm the costs of the arrangement. Still, recent layoffs at the company had “no relation” to the decision to discontinue the deal with Harry and Meghan.

Even though Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Spotify seems to be finished, they are still involved in other commercial initiatives. One is their multiyear contract with Netflix, which calls for them to produce documentaries, feature films, scripted series, and children’s programming.
