What Is Oppenheimer’s Storyline?
J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” is the subject of the biographical film Oppenheimer. As a member of the Manhattan Project, he helped build the first nuclear weapons in the world during World War II.
The first nuclear bomb was detonated by the United States on July 16, 1945, at 5:29 a.m. The test, which was dubbed Trinity, was carried out in the Jornada del Muerto desert, southeast of Socorro, New Mexico. On August 9, 1945, the same bomb would be detonated over Nagasaki.
