After eight years of development and the release of Operation Commanding Force, Rainbow Six Siege now welcomes Operation Dread Factor (Y8S2).
The new season has the standard fare of updates, including balance improvements, a revamped map, and the introduction of a new Operator named Fenrir.
Curious about the release date, the new Operator, and more? This article serves as a guide for the game’s second major update this year.
Operation Dread Factor Release Date
On May 30th, 2023, Operation Dread Factor will be released for Rainbow Six Siege. It’s a follow-up to Operation Commanding Force, and it includes a new gadget, a redesigned map, and the Defense Operator Fenrir.
In addition to these adjustments, it also includes a few quality-of-life enhancements and a revamped shooting range. We’ll be discussing them one by one.
Operator Fenrir of Operation Dread Factor
Fenrir, a Swedish Defender, is the new Operator in Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Dread Factor. He’s a tactical Defender with 2 Health and 2 Speed who focuses on disrupting the enemy’s communications.
The Fear Effect gas emitted by his F-NATT Dread Mine briefly restricts the visibility of everyone other than Fenrir. They see what appears to be a ring of purple smoke encircling them. Because they can’t see through the smoke, the Defenders can safely approach them without worrying about being detected.
Fenrir can deploy up to three mines at a time out of a possible five. Fenrir is able to remotely trigger and deactivate his mines. This allows him to set off his mines from any direction, regardless of obstructions.
The player need only aim their gaze and push a button in order to set off the mine. The position of the mines will be displayed on the side of the player’s screen. Mines are impossible to kill with gunfire while deactivated and can only be destroyed by an explosion.
When used, they are no longer bulletproof. The mine will begin releasing the gas as soon as an attacker enters its area of influence. Players can choose between the MP7 submachine gun and the SASG-12 shotgun as their primary weapon.
As a backup, Fenrir can bring either barbed wire or a Bulletproof Camera in addition to the Bailiff 410.
Reworked Rainbow Six Siege Y8S2 Dread Factor Map
The Dread Factor map getting the most significant overhaul is Consulate. The spawning angles of attackers have been adjusted so that they are less susceptible to being spotted when outside.
The stairwells have been redesigned to make them easier to navigate, and the bomb shelters have been rearranged. The bomb site in the Garage has a new entrance.
Operation Dread Factor Shooting Range
The revamped Shooting Range now features an Aiming Lane where players can put their aim to the test. The player now has additional options for how they practice thanks to the new lane’s adaptability in terms of target types, target movement speeds, training distance, and more.
A destructible wall is also available so that players can gauge the destructive power of their weapons.
