The RTX 4090 is Nvidia’s top-tier GPU for the upcoming generation. Starting on October 12, the card will be available in retail establishments for US$1,599. Nvidia guarantees up to four times the performance of the RTX 3090 Ti for that pricing.
Now that a set of legitimate RTX 4090 Geekbench 5 entries have appeared, we can see how well the Lovelace board performs in synthetic workloads. On September 20, Nvidia unveiled two RTX 4080 SKUs and the RTX 4090. The RTX 4090 has 24, GB of GDDR6X memory, 16,384 CUDA cores, and base/boost clocks of 2.23/2.52 GHz.
At the Lovelace reveal event, Nvidia asserted that the GPU outperforms the RTX 3090 Ti by a factor of two to four. We are unable to verify whether Team Green’s assertions are true because the card is not yet publicly accessible and Nvidia has not lifted the review embargo.

Having said that, recent RTX 4090 Geekbench entries have given us a sense of the board’s performance, at least in artificial benchmarks. Benchleaks are the source of information. The relevant RTX 4090 ran Geekbench inside a setup that included a Ryzen 9 7950X, an Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO motherboard, and 32 GB of 2998 MHz DDR5 RAM.
We concluded that the GPU was overclocked because it operated at a maximum frequency of 2.61 GHz. The RTX 4090 achieved an absurd 433,619 points in the CUDA benchmark of Geekbench 5. The RTX 3090 Ti has 260,346 points, in contrast, making the Lovelace flagship about 67% quicker than the Ampere monster. Though not quite the 2x Nvidia promised, the outcome is nonetheless astounding.

The RTX 4090 scored 366,286 on the OpenCL Geekbench 5 benchmark. The Lovelace board outperforms the RTX 3090 Ti by 59%, matching the CUDA result (229,738 points). In conclusion, the RTX 4090 appears to be a strong performance when compared to the Ampere flagship.
However, we do know that the board is up to 2.4 times faster in Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS 3 Frame Generation at 4K than the RTX 3090 Ti with DLSS 2 Performance mode. Unfortunately, we lack concrete gaming performance data. With this in mind, we can anticipate that the Lovelace board will easily win the RTX 4090 vs. RTX 3090 Ti showdown.
