San Francisco police arrested tech executive Nima Momeni for fatally stabbing Cash App founder Bob Lee. Mr. Momeni, 38, allegedly stabbed the 43-year-old following an altercation while traveling in Rincon Hill, San Francisco, early on April 4.

At a press conference, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott confirmed that Mr. Momeni had been charged with one count of homicide.

Mr. Momeni stated that the suspect was apprehended without incident at an address in Emeryville, a city in the Bay Area. The arrest was first reported by the Mission Local news website, which also stated that the suspects knew each other.

According to booking records from the San Francisco County Jail, Mr. Momeni was booked on a muɼder allegation. Lee’s ex-wife Krista, his brother Tim Oliver Lee, and city officials confirmed his arrest.

Mr. Momeni resides in Emeryville, in the Bay Area, and is the proprietor of Expand IT, per his LinkedIn profile. Expand IT describes itself as a “one-stop technology and security provider” for enterprise software firms.

Mr. Momeni’s profile indicates that he has supported clients in healthcare, finance, and entrepreneurs as a “dedicated technology partner” at multiple Bay Area and San Jose-based technology companies since 2005.

According to his profile, he attended Berkeley University and is fluent in English and Farsi. A look at Mr. Momeni’s property records showed that he bought an apartment at 4053 Harlan St. in Emeryville for $525,000 in 2020.

Mr. Momeni was apprehended at the Emeryville address around 5 a.m. Residents reported seeing a significant number of police officers outside the residence.

And the night before Lee’s muɼder, at 2.30 a.m., a woman entered the building where Mr. Momeni resided and began screaming his name, according to residents.

According to posts on a building’s social media group, the woman fled when neighbors threatened to call the police. It is unknown whether this incident was related to Lee’s demise.

Sam Singer, a San Francisco-area public relations executive who shared an office with the alleged muɼderer, was shocked by the arrest. Mr. Singer described Mr. Momeni as a “very nice, welcoming guy” in comments to KTVU.

Mr. Momeni had resided in California for the majority of the previous two decades, primarily in downtown San Francisco, Emeryville, and San Jose.

The Mission Local reported that Mr. Momeni and Lee were acquainted, although it is unclear how. Prior to relocating to Miami late last year, Lee was a prominent member of the San Francisco technology community.

When he was klled, the former chief technology officer of mobile payments giant Square had returned to his birthplace for a MobileCoin technology conference.
