As the earthquake strikes, people can be seen in the 28-second video clip going about their daily lives. People could be seen running for their lives as the earth began to tremble. Building debris soon began to fall as well.
The earthquake has caused damage to a number of structures and historic places, including the red walls that surround the ancient city which are included as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The highland town of Ighil, which is in the Al Haouz Province and 72 kilometers southwest of Marrakech, was the epicenter of the earthquake. At a depth of 18.5 kilometers, the earthquake occurred.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at 11:11 p.m. and caused several seconds of trembling. The earthquake was rated at 7 on the Richter scale by Morocco’s National Seismic Monitoring and Alert Network.
The US agency also said that 19 minutes after the initial earthquake, a 4.9-magnitude aftershock struck the nation. The earthquake was felt as far away as Portugal and Algeria, according to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere and the Algerian Civil Defense Service.

Numerous locations, notably Marrakesh and Ouarzazate, have reported severe damage to automobiles and property. On Morocco’s streets, those who had lost loved ones could be seen sobbing and screaming.
