“To say that Cax was a fighter would be an understatement,” today’s post read. “As a cancer survivor, she had grown accustomed to taking on life’s several challenges head on and successfully. It is with that same grit (fervor) that she fought her last days on earth.”

At the age of 14, the Haitian-American model was given a diagnosis of bone and lung cancer; two years later, she underwent hip replacement surgery that was unsuccessful, and as a result, Cax was required to have her right leg amputated.

However, Cax’s modeling career was not affected in any way by her infirmity. She became a model after scoring a Wet ‘n’ Wild cosmetics campaign in 2017, after which she signed with Jag Models. She went on to book campaigns for Becca Cosmetics and Olay, in addition to walking the runway for companies like Chromat.

Cax was also cast in Rihanna’s most recent Savage x Fenty runway show in September. The Fenty entrepreneur was among the first stars to share their sorrow upon learning of the model’s loss. Cax was an ardent advocate for fashion equality.

“A queen. A force. A powerhouse beauty that brought her strength to the @savagexfenty stage this year inspiring so many across the globe. Rest In Power sis,” Rihanna tweeted.

Iskra Lawrence, Tess Holliday, and Nina Agdal, some of Cax’s fellow models, have all expressed their sadness at her passing on Instagram. Jameela Jamil has written, “Rest in power you complete legend. It was an honour getting to know you, and witnessing your power and elegance. Love to your family.”
