After seeing a school massacre victim compete for “American Idol,” singer Katy Perry had some choice words for the United States. Trey Louis, a 21-year-old mattress salesman and aspiring singer from Texas sang a cover of Whiskey Myers’ 2016 song “Stone” on Sunday’s episode for judges Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.

His history, though, made him truly remarkable. Louis was a Santa Fe High School student in May of 2018 when a gunman opened fire, killing ten people and wounding 13. He shared his story of that night with the “Idol” panel.

Katy Perry Cried During School Shooting Survivor’s “American Idol” Audition

Hello, my name is, and I hail from Santa Fe, Texas. A gunman entered my school in May of 2018,” Louis said. I was in the first art classroom. To go to Art Room 1, he climbed the ladder in Art Room 2. Many of my pals have left me.

A total of eight pupils perished. There were two fatalities among the teaching staff. Just about everything about this has been not good. Santa Fe has been plagued by a negative reputation ever since 2018. The three judges were moved to tears, but Perry was the most emotional.

“Our country has ultimately let us down! Perry emphasized that this was not acceptable. You shouldn’t be singing here because you had to endure that f**king bulls**t. You should be singing here because you love music. A group of eight is not necessary to replace those lost.

Then Perry added, “We’ve got to change. And I really hope that you can just lead,” before the three judges unanimously send Louis through to Hollywood for the next round. The relevant section is embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
