Hulu has said that the original documentary “Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told” will be available for people to watch so they can remember the famous spring break event.

In the description, the streaming platform said the film “recounts the rise and fall of a small Atlanta HBCU picnic that exploded into an influential street party and spotlighted ATL as a major cultural stage. Can the magic of Freaknik be brought back 40 years later?”

Jermaine Dupri and Luther Campbell, better known as Uncle Luke, are executive producers for Mass Appeal, along with showrunner Geraldine L. Porras, director P. Frank Williams, Bittenbender, and Melissa Cooper. Freaknik began as a small event for students at HBCUs in the Atlanta area in the middle of the 1980s.

Do you know that Disney has confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the last movie in the series? Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first movie in the Lucasfilm series, came out in 1981 and was an instant classic:

In the 1990s, two people who did not work for an HBCU took over the event and turned it into a huge festival. The Associated Press said in 1998 that the Atlanta Committee for Black College Spring Break shouldn’t have Freaknik anymore. The head of the committee, George Hawthorne, explained (as reported by The Root) –

“We cannot support events that bring lewd activities, s*xual assaults, volence against women and public safety concerns—firetrucks not being able to reach victims, and ambulances not being able to reach hospitals in a timely manner.”

1999 was the last time there was a real Freaknik. But 20 years later, After 9 Partners, Carlos Neal, Luther Campbell, Trina, and Juvenile worked together with After 9 Partners to bring the festival back. A lot of rap and R&B artists played at the Cellairis Amphitheatre for Freaknik 2019.

Along with live performances, there were also events that helped the community. Many of the 20,000 people who went to the event were Freakniks from the 1980s and 1990s.
