Players of Fallout 76 had been aware for some time that Bethesda would be stealing some of their weapons—illegal weapons, that is, weapons created through prohibited weapon modification combinations that players weren’t supposed to be able to own in the first place.
That upgrade was initially announced last year to address these outliers and more effectively guarantee that everyone is playing on an even playing field. Still, it was postponed to a later time shortly after. Now, it has finally been deployed. Fallout 76 update.

In one of the game’s Inside the Vault entries from November, Bethesda initially stated its intentions to deal with illicit weapons. It warned players to anticipate their removal from accounts in the near future.
This update was made to “guarantee that every player is using and trading the same goods and has the same advantages as everyone else,” even though it wouldn’t affect everyone since not everyone owned these weapons.

That update, postponed in December after some testing, is now available on all platforms. The notes for this week’s update stated, “Even if we are playing in a post-apocalyptic world, we still want to maintain that environment fair, fun, and inviting to all.
