Russian authorities claim that Ukraine used a drone to assault a building in Moscow, setting off an explosion that was audible throughout the city’s financial center. The drone was shot down by air defenses, according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, and its debris fell on the city’s Expo Center.

Ukraine’s government did not respond right away, but it has never openly acknowledged carrying out attacks against Moscow-based targets. The attack happened about 4:00 local time (01:00 GMT), according to a Telegram post by Russia’s defense ministry.
It claimed that the drone “changed its flight path” and hit a non-residential building on the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment.
A section of Moscow that is home to several government buildings, after the city’s air defense systems were activated. It further stated that no immediate reports of casualties had been made. Less than 5km (3.1 miles) separate the Expo Center, a sizable display space utilized for conferences and conventions.

“A powerful explosion” was generated by the strike, a witness who was nearby told Reuters news agency. According to the Russian defense ministry, there was no fire started by the debris, and according to Mr. Sobyanin, the drone did “no significant damage” to the structure.
A state-run news organization in Russia, one of the center’s outer walls has partially fallen. Tass cited emergency personnel in their story. About 30 square meters (323 square feet) were stated to be the affected area.
The event also caused the closure of Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, which reopened a short while later. Moscow was not affected by the conflict in Ukraine until earlier this year, but in recent months it has come under drone attack.
A round of hits reported on May 30th reportedly caused damage to multiple buildings. Two different drones collided with the glass in front of a skyscraper outside the Expo Center on July 30 and 31.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the time that the war was “returning to the territory of Russia” and that this was an “inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process”.
