On Friday, officials from Columbiana County said that Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will be in charge of the investigation into Evan Lambert’s arrest.
Gov. Mike DeWine held a press conference on Wednesday to talk about the East Palestine train derailment and the controlled chemical release. During the press conference, the NewsNation reporter was arrested.
Officials said that local authorities sent the case to Yost’s office after finding out that several state agencies were involved in the arrest, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio National Guard.
Officials said in a press release obtained by 19 News –
“We will work diligently with the OAG’s Office to ensure they have all necessary information, evidence, and materials required for a prompt review.”
During the Governor’s press conference, police told reporter Evan Lambert to be quiet while he was giving a live report. Then, Lambert was led out of the gym, thrown to the ground, and handcuffed.

A NewsNation story says that Lambert is being charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing. Brian Entin, a senior national correspondent for NewsNation, says that Lambert has since been let out of jail –

DeWine had already said something about the incident –
“It has always been my practise that if I’m doing a press conference, someone wants to report out there and they want to be talking back to the people back on channel, whatever, they have every right to do that.”
“If someone was stopped from doing that, or told they could not do that, that was wrong. It was nothing that I authorized.”
