McDonald’s announced on Thursday, July 27, 2023, that it will launch CosMc’s as a spinoff restaurant brand in 2024. The announcement follows the enormous success that McDonald’s Grimace Birthday Meal experienced during the brief period that it was on sale.

The fast food restaurant chain is now offering CosMc to mark the achievement. Investors were told by CEO Chris Kempczinski that the fast-food company would open a different chain of eateries named CosMc’s with “its own unique personality.”

The name of the new business was inspired by CosMc, a robotic alien creature who made an appearance in a few McD ads in the late 1980s. CosMc is a McDonaldland celebrity with a B-grade, but it is not as well-known as Grimace.

In 1987, the six-armed alien CosMc made appearances in a number of ads. It was said to have lingered behind after visiting Earth to study more about the product’s food. The character first appeared, as was previously indicated, in the late 1980s. He did, however, vanish by the early 1990s.

According to the CEO of McDonald’s, the fast-food behemoth intends to launch CosMc’s, a spinoff chain of more intimate eateries, in 2024. CosMc is a yellow-colored hybrid robot and alien who first emerged in McDonaldland, the make-believe setting where Ronald McDonald and his friends live in the McDonald’s chain.

In our earlier posts, where we covered more information regarding related news, you may learn more about them:

The lesser-known figure has six limbs and left his home in space when he discovered McDonald’s burgers and fries. He first appeared in McDonald’s advertisements in 1987. (The cast of McDonaldland made their debut in 1971).

Golden Arches CEO Chris Kempczinski said during a second-quarter earnings call:

“CosMc’s is a small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald’s, but its own unique personality,”

It’s not yet obvious how CosMc will fit into the new brand, which Kempczinski stated will be tested in a few locations within “a limited geography” in the first few months of 2019.

In a teaser, Kempczinski hinted that the company’s investor day, which is scheduled for December, will include further details and development plans for the spin-off concept.

The plot of CosMc is described in a McDonald’s advertisement from the 1980s that also includes Grimace, Ronald McDonald, and Professor from McDonaldland. A UFO-like object is seen descending in McDonald’s before sprouting a head and six limbs and announcing:

“Hi-ho Earth people, CosMc here. I popped in from outer space on a trade mission.”

The following year, an advertisement featuring friends Ronald and CosMc flying into space to acquire a Happy Meal through the “fly-through” was broadcast. The soon-to-be star of a McDonald’s spinoff brand subsequently appeared alongside fellow McDonaldland icon the Hamburglar in the 1990s Nintendo game M.C. Kids.

The return of CosMc comes after McDonald’s experienced great success by bringing back its purple fuzzy mascot Grimace. CosMc is noted for matching his futuristic suit with clunky white sneakers. In the 1970s, Grimace was known as “Evil Grimace,” but in 2022.

CNBC International Tweeted on Jul 27, 2023:

The lovable fuzzball made a reappearance with a kinder new appearance. The purple blob’s 52nd birthday was recently honored by McDonald’s with a limited-edition milkshake and Happy Meal.

As a result, McDonald’s, which operates 13,513 outlets in the US and more than 38,000 elsewhere, exceeded Wall Street’s forecast of $6.27 billion by recording revenue of $6.5 billion in the most recent quarter.

The net sales increased 14% from the previous year. The Chicago-based company posted earnings of $2.31 billion, a significant increase from the $1.8 billion reported in the first quarter. The mascot, who stirred up a lot of fond memories in McDonald’s patrons, was credited by Kempczinski as the reason for the success.
