Murdaugh Muɼders: A Southern Scandal, a new true cɼime documentary series on Netflix, tells the tale of the affluent South Carolina family the Murdaughs. In Murdaugh Muɼders, the family of litigators is investigated for a number of incidents, including a fatal boating accdent, as well as the circumstances leading up to the murdeɼs of matriarch Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh and her son Paul in the summer of 2021.

The ongoing trial of Alex Murdaugh, Paul’s father and Maggie’s husband, who was accused of their murdeɼs but has maintained his innocence and entered a not guilty plea, is also partially covered in the series. The documentary also features Buster, the additional son of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, as a fourth Murdaugh family member.

Before klling his mother and brother, Richard Alex Murdaugh, sometimes known as Buster, was employed by his father’s law firm and was enrolled in law school at the University of South Carolina, which was somewhat of a family tradition. He was later dismissed, nonetheless, due to a plagiarism-related incident.

According to local paper The Post and Courier, Buster’s family paid $60,000 in order to ensure that he would be readmitted to the college in order to complete his law degree. However, he has yet to recommence his studies.

Where is Buster Murdaugh Now?

In his testimony, he stated that Alex was “heartbroken” over the murdeɼs of Maggie and Paul. Buster has been present for the entire trial of his father, and according to Law & Cɼime, throughout the proceedings, Buster has reportedly been rattled and buried his head in his hands while the lawyers recount the graphic details of the double homicide.

Buster’s father was found guilty of both murdeɼs on March 2nd, and on March 3rd, the judge gave him two consecutive life sentences in jail.

Where Was Buster During the Murdeɼs?

Alex Murdaugh claims that when he got home on June 7, 2021, he saw Maggie and Paul shót to deth close to the dog kennels on their property. Both 911 and Buster were dialed by him. Buster testified during the trial.

Buster was at his girlfriend’s home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, more than 200 miles away when the kllings occurred. He went straight to the Murdaugh house after learning what had transpired.

What Was Buster’s Reaction to the Verdict?

Alex Murdaugh was given two consecutive life sentences by a judge on Friday, March 3, 2023, for the murdeɼs of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. A source who was present at the Colleton County Courthouse during the sentencing told the New York Post:

“Buster held up pretty well until the cameras were off him, but then he collapsed… He was crying uncontrollably. The uncles finally got him into a car.”

Buster Has Been Linked to Two Other Deἀths

The boating accdent that klled Mallory Beach was one of the incidents covered in Murdaugh Murdeɼs. The Beach family had maintained that Paul Murdaugh was intoxicated at the time, but they have now accepted a settlement that drops Buster’s and his mother’s names from the case.

The film also makes reference to the unsolved deth of Stephen Smith, a 19-year-old former friend, and classmate of Buster whose body was discovered on a road not far from the Murdaughs’ house.

Authorities at the time disagreed that Smith’s njuries were consistent with a collision, despite the fact that a hit-and-run was thought to be the cause of his deth. As a result, suspicion fell on Buster because there were allegations that he was datng Smith, an out gay man.
