Aileen Mercedes Cannon is an admitted lawyer in the United States and a federal judge for the Southern District of Florida. Before joining the judiciary, Cannon worked as an attorney for Gibson Dunn, a corporate law firm, from 2009 until 2012.
She served as a federal prosecutor in Florida’s Southern District from 2013 until 2020. President Trump proposed her in November 2020, and the U.S. Senate approved her nomination the following month.
Judge Aileen Cannon presided over the Donald J. Trump v. United States of America lawsuit from August to December 2022. Her choice approved former president Trump’s request for a special master to review the Mar-a-Lago evidence and temporarily blocked its use in the investigation.
