Rapper AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes, was shot and killed on Friday in Durban, South Africa, according to reports. He was 35.

News24 confirmed with local police that a “well-known rapper,” believed to be Forbes, was shot and killed outside a popular nightclub on Durban’s Florida Road.

Law enforcement spokesperson Robert Netshiunda told the outlet –

“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed.”

The Post asked AKA’s reps for their thoughts. The South African rapper was supposed to play in Durban on Friday, according to reports. “Mass Country,” his new album, was set to come out on February 27.

Paramedic Garrith Jamieson told TimesLIVE that the shooting happened at about 10:15 p.m. local time and that when paramedics got there, they found “total chaos” and two men in their late 30s who had been shot multiple times.

    He added –

“Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately the first male had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.”

Even though people tried to save the second unidentified male victim’s life, he died later. Fans and other artists took to Twitter and Instagram on Friday to share their condolences and sadness for AKA, who was born on January 28, 1988.

The rapper posted on Instagram Friday morning about the release of his new album, and now there are a lot of broken heart emojis in the comments section. He also seemed to tweet a response to a fan right before the shooting.

In the comments, fans wrote “R.I.P.” with heart emoticons and said they were “worried” about his safety. Some people asked the rapper to post something to show that he is still alive.

    One user wrote –

“Is true bro AKA are you okay?”

    Tweeted another –

    “Are you alright mate?”

    Another pleaded –

“We’re all waiting for you to tweet something.”

The artist, who is also known as Supa Mega, has over 489,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. “Lemons (Lemonade),” “Fela in Versace,” and “All Eyes on Me” are some of his biggest hits. This year, he put out the album “Prada,” which was his most recent work.

In 2021, the rapper, whose daughter Kairo was raised by an ex-girlfriend named DJ Zinhle, lost his fiancee, Anele “Nelli” Tembe, who had fallen to her death.
