Cheney is one of the most well-known Republicans to speak out against former President Donald Trump and the “Big Lie” that the results of the 2020 presidential election were rigged. Cheney also serves as vice chair of the House Jan. 6 committee. Cheney was defeated in the Wyoming Republican primary of 2022 by a challenger endorsed by Trump who had embraced electoral fraud.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Democrat running for reelection in Michigan, received Cheney’s support last week. It was the first time a Republican had ever backed a Democrat.

She declared, “My party has completely lost its course at this point. We’ve been dependent on a man who was willing to try to thwart the peaceful transfer of power, so that’s why it’s risky.

She continued, “We can’t transfer authority to those who have warned us they won’t accept the results of elections.
