Southern New York According to the MTA LIRR, a person was killed near Southold on Monday morning after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road train.

An MTA official stated that the incident happened at 8:53 in the morning and involved an eastbound train destined for Greenport. Unknown person who was on the rails “unauthorizedly” was struck a short distance west of the Southold station.

The MTA reported that although some trains were delayed for a short period of time, all service had been resumed by 11:34 a.m.

According to the MTA, the occurrence doesn’t seem to be criminal in character.

The 7:30 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma, scheduled to arrive in Greenport at 8:54 a.m., was running two hours and 35 minutes late via Mattituck, according to the MTA.
