Many users of the Meta-owned social messaging programme WhatsApp have been complaining about not being able to send or receive messages.

Nearly 26,000 user reports about the app’s functionality were found on Downdetector, a website monitoring platform.

While 69% of those surveyed reported issues sending messages, 24% had issues connecting to servers, and 7% had problems with the app as a whole.

A spokeswoman for Meta was quoted by the news wire agency ANI as saying, “We’re aware that certain users are now having problems sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”

The number of reports filed on Downdetector about users being unable to communicate increased for WhatsApp for Business, the version of the network created for businesses and organisations to conduct commercial transactions.
