Here is everything we know so far about The Legend of Zelda BOTW 2.

BOTW2, or the “sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” has a lot of expectations placed on it. After all, with Breath of the Wild, the open-world genre was completely reimagined. Many of the features that are now commonplace in open-world games were inspired by this Nintendo masterpiece.

In part, the excitement surrounding Breath of the Wild 2 stems from the anticipation that it will be at least as good as its precedent-breaking predecessor. Players in Breath of the Wild were free to wander Hylian pastures at will, completing plot points in any order they desired. When it comes to Breath of the Wild 2, what can we expect to see?

Due to the latest revelation that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will also be released in late 2022, enthusiastic fans are growing apprehensive. Some are concerned that the Switch launch could be postponed until 2023 because of the simultaneous release of two major Switch titles.

Breath Of The Wild 2’s Name

There is no such thing as Breath of the Wild 2. It’s simply the name given by fans to the sequel once it was made public. Like previous Zelda games, the sequel appears to have a subtitle (The Legend of Zelda: Insert Subtitle Here). “The subtitle might ruin the plot,” said Bill Trinen, Nintendo marketing manager, in an IGN interview. As a result, the team chose to delay announcing the complete title in order to keep the mystery alive for a little longer.

It is referred to as “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel” internally by Nintendo. It’s the title given to all of the film’s official marketing materials, including the trailer, which bears this moniker. As for the name of the Breath of the Wild sequel, Trinen, and other Nintendo Treehouse representatives seemed fine with it.

What We Know About Breath of the Wild 2’s Story?

In Breath of the Wild 2, the game’s story hasn’t been made public. According to gameplay footage, it could be another rescue operation, but the identity of the enemy and what is driving the new story remain a mystery. Breath of the Wild 2’s producer, Eiji Aonuma, stated the sequel would be “darker” than the first, which could be a hint for players.

Breath of the Wild 2’s producer, Eiji Aonuma, stated the sequel would be “darker” than the first, which could be a hint for players. Red Dead Redemption 2 appears to have inspired the development crew, particularly the younger members.

This is an interesting tidbit: Red Dead Redemption 2 is said to have inspired the production team, particularly the younger ones. Even Skyrim was a source of inspiration for Breath of the Wild. While working on Breath of the Wild, Hidemaro Fujibayashi played the game.

Breath of the Wild 2’s Gameplay

New powers have been seen in the teaser for Breath of the Wild 2, which appears to be mostly based on the mechanics of the previous game. One of Link’s weapons, a gigantic spiked ball, is driven up the mountain and into some opponents.

There is a strong connection between this and the Stasis rune from the original game. It’s reasonable to assume that the other new abilities will build upon Sheikah Slate’s already impressive set of skills.

As it turns out, Nintendo has filed a number of patents that shed light on some of the game’s upcoming features. There are a few hints in the trailer that indicate that Link’s new ability to phase through platforms, as well as an item “reversal” ability, will be included in the game.

Zelda Breath of the Wild 2

Additionally, there will be some scattered, explorable territory above the clouds, just like in Breath of the Wild. Zelda’s previous instance of isolated islands in Wind Waker, where each island contains unique missions and mini-games to differentiate them from each other, rather than just being plain landmasses, reminded our Assistant Editor Alex Donaldson. It’s possible, but it’s a wish rather than a certainty.

Also, the game’s design appears to be inspired by Skyward Sword, which is understandable given that the title is canonically the earliest Zelda story, taking place the furthest back in time. The similarities to Skyloft and other areas in Skyward Sword may mostly be attributed to the floating islands in the sky.

Theories About Breath of the Wild 2

Hold on to your hats here, players, this is where it gets wild (no pun intended). Since the confirmation of a BOTW sequel, fans have come up with numerous theories as to what, who, and where. The best part is, a lot of them have substantial reasoning.

The Zonai Tribe, and Typhlo Ruins

Some believe that BOTW2 will take Link and Zelda back in time to when Ganondorf was imprisoned by the Zonai 10,000 years before the current timeline. There are many parallels to Skyward Swords, such as the floating islands, creatures, and architecture in the environment.

The Typhlo Ruins and the Faron Ruins of Breath of the Wild were erected by the Zonai, a ‘warlike’ and magic-using tribe who existed in Hyrule. The motifs and brick patterns are quite similar to those shown in the BOTW2 teaser. The link may be able to find out where the Zonai went, or if they actually left at all, by traveling to that location.

Twilight Princess, and the Twili People

Next, we’ll look at some hypotheses about the Twili race from the previous game, Twilight Princess. There have been aesthetic similarities between the two trailers produced by Nintendo; the brilliant teal hues have been employed primarily in conjunction with the Twili and their powers, as well as the weird symbols floating in the air. In this scenario, it is possible that the Twili will appear or have an impact on the tale because of the magical blue hand (which is keeping the mummified character in place).

Link, but Evil

Ganondorf may be linked to Link, according to another idea. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that the mummy is Ganondorf.

It’s possible, but… According to a Reddit member, the angry-looking character is actually Link. On a tapestry depicting a battle between Calamity Ganon and the Hyrulean troops, Link is shown as the protagonist. The hypothesis posits that the trailers in the overworld are actually back in time and that Link succumbs to the Malice and becomes Ganondorf. To be fair, there are some visual parallels between the two.

We’ve just scratched the surface of the BOTW 2 theory rabbit hole here, but it’s one that we think you should explore deeper. All of this, of course, might be a complete waste of time and effort on the side of the game designers. That doesn’t seem to be the case, for some reason…

Do You Get to Play as Zelda?

No, I don’t believe that is the case. She is shown sinking into a deep, dark pit in the trailer while Link is seen running around on his own. However, the illusion was pleasant for a short while. In which case, we’ll be in for a surprise when Nintendo releases further details!
