Xavier Lopez, also known as “Chabelo,” who spent decades making Latin American and Mexican families laugh on television, passed away on 25 March.
The news of the iconic comic and actor’s dea†h was initially shared on Twitter by Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known for dressing up as a young child and appearing in a variety of sketch and comedy programs.
The tweet is mentioned below-
Abrazo a familiares y amigos por el fallecimiento de Xavier López "Chabelo". Cómo olvidar que mi hijo mayor se despertaba temprano para verlo hace más de 40 años.
— Andrés Manuel (@lopezobrador_) March 25, 2023
He wrote (According to Geo TV)
“Hugs to family and friends for the death of Xavier López “Chabelo.” How can I forget that my eldest son woke up early to see him over 40 years ago.”
A post from Chabelo’s family on his Facebook page provided additional information about how he passed away, mentioning the abdominal difficulties he was experiencing and how they “suddenly” claimed his life. What d*isease he may have been facing is unknown.
In any case, the post says this (as reported by Yahoo)
“With a torn soul and knowing that many and many people have loved him for many years and that they will feel his departure, we ask you to pray for his rest and give us the opportunity to spend in peace the mourning that overwhelms our entire family.”
Not just in Mexico, where he lived and worked, and in the United States, where his content was a mainstay for early-morning children’s programming, Chabelo was well-known in Spanish-speaking households.
Maybe his most well-known accomplishment is his long-running variety program, “En Family con Chabelo.” He acted as the host and conducted games, interviews, and other activities while dressing up as a young Chabelo, wearing childish overalls, etc.
He received two Guinness World Records for portraying the Chabelo role in general and the longest career as a children’s television host for this particular show, which ran from 1968 to 2012 without interruption (57 years).
Other hit shows he helped spearhead and star in include “La carabina de Ambrosio,” “La Güereja y algo más,” “La escuelita VIP,” “La familia P. Luche,” and many, many others. The practice of adults portraying themselves as children is credited to Chabelo with giving rise to an entire subgenre of comedy in Latin America.
In recent times, there have been several high-profile fatalities that have attracted a lot of attention, and we have been reporting on the following factors that contributed to these dea†hs:
- Jerry Richardson’s Cause of Death: How Did He Pass Away?
- Hayden Panettiere’s Tragic Loss: Jansen’s Cause of Death Revealed

This has happened often over the years. This man is the original, and losing him is similar to losing Fred Rogers. His wife and kids are still alive. Aged 88, Chabelo.
