Rapper Jamell Demons from South Florida, sometimes known as “YNW Melly,” “Melly,” or “Melvin,” started gaining popularity in 2017 while serving a prἰson sentence.
Six years later, the rapper of “Murdeɼ On My Mind” is on trial for the alleged muɼders of two of his friends and contemporaries, Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. He might face the deἀth penalty if found guἰlty.

Thomas and Williams were respectively 19 and 21 years old at the time of their deἀths. They had known “YNW Melly” for a long time. Demons referred to the two as “brothers” in many Instagram posts that have since been deleted.
Demons was born in Giffords, Florida. In addition to the YNW rap group, the artist has openly supported the Bloods gang. Demons started posting music to the streaming service SoundCloud. His music has received accolades for portraying life in poverty and gang vἰolence in detail. Many of his works were written and published while he was in prἰson.
The rapper was originally imprἰsoned in 2015 when he was 16 years old for sh∅∅ting three individuals near a high school in Indian River County. Charges against Demons included three charges of aggravated assἀult with a deἀdly weἀpon and one count of discharging a gμn in public. The reason was never made public.
For breaking his probation and having both marijuana and weἀpons in his possession, Demons was detained once more in 2017. Additionally, in 2017, he released his debut EP, Collect Call, which was followed by a number of 2018 smash singles like “Butter Pecan” and “Medium Fries.”
Demons officially launched “Murdeɼ On My Mind” in June 2018, now receiving over 500 million YouTube views. As the song describes a horrific murdeɼ, its lyrics came under scrutiny once Demons was connected to the kἰllings of Thomas and Williams.
The song was written almost two years before the muɼders of Thomas and Williams when Demons was jaἰled. Demons’ debut mixtape, ‘I Am You,’ debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in August 2018. While jaἰled, he released his second mixtape in January 2019. Kanye West appeared on the popular single “Mixed Personalities” from the album.
Demons went on a concert tour a month later, in February 2019, but only made it to one gig before surrendering to Miramar police. Demons, the two vἰctims, and Cortlen Henry spent the night at a recording studio in Fort Lauderdale. Cortlen is currently on trial for two counts of premeditated first-degree muɼder. They drove away in the same Jeep.

Since there was no sign of a drive-by sh∅∅ting when police searched the area, prosecutors argue that Demons and Henry staged the incident and that Thomas and Williams were kἰlled inside the Jeep. Demons surrendered when Henry was taken into custody and imprἰsoned without bond.
