After Republicans lost the fight for control of the Senate on Sunday, former President Trump attempted to place the blame on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky).

Even while the GOP is still expected to win the House, many Republicans have pointed the finger at the former president and the candidates he supported in crucial swing states since the party fell far short of its projections going into Tuesday.

Trump, though, claimed on Sunday that McConnell was to blame for the midterm elections, in part because the Senate GOP’s campaign arm did not invest heavily on Blake Masters’ effort to replace Sen. Mark Kelly (D) in Arizona.

“Mitch McConnell is to blame. It was a tremendous mistake to invest money in Kelly Tshibaka’s campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) rather than supporting Blake Masters and others, Trump stated in his letter.

Everyone hates him and his otherwise wonderful wife, Coco Chow, because he failed the midterms. Added Trump.

Following the Capitol riots and Trump’s baseless allegations that the 2020 election was rigged, McConnell and Trump have been at odds ever since the Senate GOP leader criticised the former president on the Senate floor.

After Democrats won a crucial seat in Nevada, Republicans lost the Senate on Saturday. Democrats may have a stronger majority than they did in the previous Congress if they prevail in a runoff election in Georgia on December 6.

Since Tuesday, McConnell has been mum, but he anticipated a competitive Senate battle, in part because of the “calibre” of the GOP’s Senate candidates, many of whom were chosen by Trump.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) claimed on Sunday that Republicans who supported Trump were to responsible for the midterm results because they had given too much attention to matters from the past, such as the 2020 election, rather than to crime and the economy.

Masters, who received Trump’s support, had supported the former president’s assertions regarding the 2020 election, despite his later attempts to retract them.

Don Bolduc in New Hampshire and other unsuccessful Senate candidates had advocated similar talking points for the 2020 race.

Trump acknowledged last week that the midterm elections were “slightly disappointing,” but still a “very tremendous triumph” before the Senate flipped to the Democrats.
