According to reports from state authorities, a person was shot “in the presence of law police” on Tuesday(28 Feb 2023) afternoon at a rest area in southern New Jersey. The event will be investigated by the Office of the Attorney General in the state of New Jersey.
The shooting occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday(28 Feb 2023) at the New Jersey Turnpike’s Clara Barton Service Area in Pedricktown, Salem County. The incident involved personnel of the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators said.
The male civilian’s identity has not been revealed to the public by the AG’s office. The brief news statement that the agency sent regarding the incident included who shot him and what precipitated the encounter.

The review is being carried out by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability within the AG’s office by a state directive issued in 2019 that mandates an independent investigation of criminal cases involving the use of force by police and deaths that occur while individuals are held in custody.
