A multimillion-dollar settlement has been struck with Parker’s, the convenience store company that provided alcohol to an underage Paul Murdaugh hours before he steered the boat, four years after Mallory Beach, 19, dἰed in a boat accἰdent in South Carolina.
Beach family attorney Mark Tinsley told NPR, with Mallory Beach’s wrongful deἀth case settled for $15 million:
“All of the cases were settled with Parker’s.”
Additional sums will be given to Beach’s family and Connor Cook, Morgan Doughty, Anthony Cook, and Miley Altman, the four crash survivors. A chain of convenience stores is owned by The Parker’s Corporation in Georgia and coastal South Carolina.
Next month, a jury trial in Hampton County, South Carolina, was scheduled for the case. But the deal will put a stop to that activity. Paul Murdaugh pἀssed away in 2021, and his father, former lawyer Alex Murdaugh, was given two life sentences for the murdeɼs of his wife and son. Paul’s access to alcohol and the boat that crashed was allegedly made easier by the Murdaugh family.
Parker’s Was Accused of Failing to Block Access to Alcohol
Attorney P.K. Shere stated, adding that all parties had promised not to disclose material to the public:
“It is disappointing that the contents of settlement discussions have been disclosed.”
Shere also underlined that Parker’s has not been charged with a cɼime for selling alcohol to Murdaugh, who provided a Parker’s Kitchen employee with his older brother’s identification in order to purchase alcohol at the convenience store on Okatie Highway in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

Although Paul Murdaugh was smaller and younger than his elder brother and used a credit card that belonged to his mother, Maggie, Beach and other people who were on the boat’s attorneys claim the store clerk did not do enough to check Murdaugh’s age.
He then “consumed the beverages purchased from Parker’s and became grossly intoxicated” before the deἀdly boat crash, according to the Beach family’s complaint.
In the company’s view, Murdaugh and his friends made “repeated bad decisions” that night, Shere said. The store chain faced the potential of being punished along with Murdaugh, he said, as a court had recently “Ruled that Parker’s would be tethered to Alex Murdaugh at the upcoming trial.”
Facing the potential of a significant jury award under the state’s joint and several liability laws, Shere said, Parker’s insurance carriers opted to settle:
“To avoid paying the likely award intended to punish Alex Murdaugh. This marks the conclusion of all the boat crash cases,” he added. “We sincerely hope that all involved parties will find some measure of closure.”
Beach’s Deἀth and the Boat Crash Preceded Double Murdeɼs
Beach’s 19-year-old pἀssing brought the prominent Murdaugh family into the limelight when word spread of a boating tragedy that occurred in the early hours of the morning in South Carolina’s Lowcountry and involved Paul Murdaugh, who was also 19 at the time.
Paul Murdaugh was driving his family’s boat at the time of the crash on February 24, 2019, while intoxicated and agitated. In an indictment against Paul Murdaugh, the authorities said that he was in control of a boat carrying five friends after an oyster roast when it ran aground in Beaufort County, close to Parris Island, after colliding with a channel marker and the R.C. Berkeley Bridge’s pilings.

According to the hosts of the party, no alcohol was provided. However, the Murdaughs’ boat had a cooler with drinks, and after the oyster roast, Paul and a companion made a quick trip to a waterfront bar. Following the collision, Paul and other victims were brought to a nearby hospital, where, Alex Murdaugh also showed up.
The charge nurse stated how the senior Murdaugh made an effort to speak with every boat passenger, telling at least one of them not to report the incident to the police. Five miles from the bridge, a week later, the body of Mallory Beach was discovered.
Paul and Maggie Murdaugh were shót and kἰlled on their family’s hunting property on June 7, 2021. Alex Murdaugh, Paul’s father, was convicted of their slayings earlier this year. After the shóóting, Alex spoke with emergency personnel, and one of the first things he brought up was his son’s boating accἰdent.
