Jayson Christopher Tatum, an American professional basketball player who was born on March 3, 1998, is a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and plays for the Boston Celtics. Tatum was a McDonald’s All-American in high school in Missouri and currently plays basketball for the Duke Blue Devils in college.
The Boston Celtics selected Tatum with the third overall choice in the 2017 NBA Draft. He received an election to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2018. The four-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA player Tatum guided the Celtics to the NBA Finals and won the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference Finals Most Valuable Player award.

Jayson Tatum’s Career
The Boston Celtics’ general manager, Danny Ainge, attempted to get a valuable second-round pick and hold onto Tatum by trading the team’s first overall pick to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA draft.
They selected him with the third overall pick they obtained from Philadelphia. He was the Celtics’ second consecutive No. 3 choice for a small forward, following Jaylen Brown in 2016. In roughly 33 minutes of play, he averaged 18.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.0 assists at the 2017 NBA Summer League in Utah, showcasing his skills.
Later, in the three games he was allowed to play, Tatum produced performances that were comparable to those in Las Vegas, averaging 17.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.8 blocks in over 32 minutes of action.
He made the All-Summer League Second Team, along with Wayne Selden Jr., Kyle Kuzma, Bryn Forbes, and Cheick Diallo. Tatum, the team’s starting power forward, had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 102–99 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Celtics entered the 2018 NBA playoffs as the second seed in the Eastern Conference, having finished the regular season with a 55–27 record. Tatum recorded a double-double in Game 1 of the first-round series against the seventh-seeded Milwaukee Bucks, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
In both Game 4 and Game 6, he scored 22 points, surpassing his previous postseason high of 21 points. With 20 points from Tatum, the Celtics upset the Bucks 112–96 in Game 7.
