Emily Ratajkowski, who played Amy in the movie “Gone Girl,” talks about why she quit acting in Hollywood. Before she was in David Fincher’s Gone Girl as a student having an affair with Ben Affleck’s professor, the supermodel was in a few high-profile music videos, like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.”
Ratajkowski went on to star with Aaron Paul in the movies We Are Your Friends, Cruise, I Feel Pretty and Welcome Home. Since 2019, when she was in Lying and Stealing, she hasn’t been in a movie.
Ratajkowski talks about why she quit acting in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times. She says that the main reason is that men in Hollywood treated her badly. Ratajkowski goes into depth about how Hollywood is “f*cked up,” did not value her as an artist, and objectified her. Here are some of the things she said:
“I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I’m an artist performing and this is my outlet.’ I felt like a piece of meat who people were judging, saying, ‘Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?’ Maybe that’s why right now I’m not really interested in men’s POVs. Because they were lies. And I don’t mean infidelity. This is a f*cked up world. Like, Hollywood is f*cked up. And it’s dark.”
After her supporting role in Gone Girl was praised, Ratajkowski and her team started looking for other roles to show that she was a “serious actress with longevity.” She had some success with more supporting roles, but she didn’t feel like Hollywood appreciated her as an artist.

A party she went to with her now ex-husband, Uncut Gems producer Sean Bear-McClard, was one of the most important things that turned her off from Hollywood. In an essay from her book My Body, Ratajkowski talks about being in a room full of men who were friends with convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein and told “their young female clients to meet with him in hotel rooms.”
Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard are going through a tough divorce and custody battle right now. Bear-McClard has been accused of s*xual misconduct by more than one woman, and Ratajkowski wants to get rid of him.
