The 1997 Walt Disney Television musical fantasy film Cinderella, based on the story by Robert L. Freedman and the music by Rodgers & Hammerstein, was directed by Robert Iscove and written by Freedman. Based on the French fairy tale by Charles Perrault, the film is the second remake and third rendition of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, which originally premiered on television in 1957.

Cinderella Storyline
Cinderella is distracted while waiting for her stepmother and two stepsisters in the marketplace, where she encounters a charming young man. Songwriters Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II originally composed Cinderella as a musical solely for television starring Julie Andrews, which broadcast in 1957 to 107 million viewers.
