Randi Martin, the mother of Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, was speechless in late January after her son, who was 27 years old at the time, helped lead the Chiefs to victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game, thereby punching Kansas City’s ticket to Super Bowl 2023.
“Words cannot describe my emotions,” Randi gushed on Instagram at the time. “I love my family more then [sic] anything #blessed.”
Randi has been a fan of Mahomes since the Chiefs picked him with the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft in 2017. The former Texas Tech player has relied on his family’s help, especially when he got hurt in the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs this year.
When Mahomes got a high-ankle sprain against the Jaguars, he had to leave the game for a short time, but he came back in the second half to help the Chiefs win 27-20. One week later, Mahomes’ performance showed no signs of being affected by the injury, and Kansas City beat Cincinnati 23-20.
Pat Mahomes, Mahomes’s father, said that his son’s incredible strength came from his ex-wife, whom he divorced in 2006.
“His mama has some different genes,” Mahomes Sr., a former MLB pitcher, told The Washington Post in January. “She’s double-jointed and all that. He gets that from his mama. My athletic ability comes from me. That part comes from his mama.”
